Happy Summer Solstice today, my friends.  The longest day of the year for those of us in the northern hemisphere....the area north of the equator.  After today, the time of daylight will start getting shorter but that's ok because we won't notice much.  It's still glorious summertime and will be for a long while yet.

Hubby, youngest daughter & I are headed up north, to Michigan, today for oldest granddaughter's trumpet recital.  The same granddaughter who played Taps at her local cemetery for a Memorial Day commemoration this year.

Whenever I hear one of my loved ones play music, the tears start to roll from my eyes.  Every single time.  I hope it doesn't happen today but I'm not very confident it won't.  Granddaughter's mother, our oldest child, plays piano like Yanni...gorgeous!  Our son plays both guitar and drums and youngest daughter plays guitar & sings.  She's had perfect pitch since she was just a tiny little thing.  So music has been a part of our lives forever, it seems.  In fact, I always tell folks that's what I miss most when one of our children moves away from home...their music is gone.

I hope my body behaves itself on the drive up & back from Michigan today.  Riding 45 minutes one way, in the car, is not something I do very often.  I usually walk like a crippled person when we arrive.  I'm not taking my wheelchair today so that means walking up to the building, walking to our seat, all that jazz.

Back just a few short years ago, hubby & I would have ridden the motorcycle to this event.  We would have taken the backroads, turned the music up on the CD player, and enjoyed the wind in our faces.  Seems like such a long, long time ago.  I haven't totally given up on riding but our rides are much further in between these days.  My knees have such a hard time bending in order to hop on.  The twisting to get off is worse.  Each time I do it, I swear it's the last time.

Have a wonderful day, one & all.  Stay cool if it's hot where you live.  Happy Summer Solstice.

Love, Andrea xoxo

  1. This will be a great little trip and your granddaughter will be so happy to see the three of you there. What amazing talents she has and I hope you can capture some good photos or even a video for us to see. Riding the motorcycle would be fun. Enjoy the trip and prayers for your safe travels.

  3. I think there's no doubt you'll have tears. Just hearing Taps brings me to tears, and add in the fact that your granddaughter is playing? I'd be done for.
Hope the drive goes well! It's hot here today!

  5. I can certainly see why you would get emotional seeing and hearing your grands play. I find certain pieces very moving at the best of times let alone a loved one playing. Have a wonderful time up north and I hope your body will be okay after the journey. Happy Summer Solstice :) xoxo
