Thank you soooo much to everyone who held a kind thought for me after reading my last blog post...and extra blessings to those who put those kind thoughts into words in the comment section. I feel your thoughts, prayers and love across the miles to this humble homestead in northernmost Indiana. xoxo
The wind has been howling all night here, as was forecast, and still is. It was 58*F when I went to bed last night & thunderstorming. Right now, as I type at 5:40am, it's 56*F. Very strange weather for January 9th indeed! We have both gale & wind advisories until 3pm this afternoon.
I've been taking my vitamins & supplements "religiously" for the last several months & a couple weeks ago I added a Vitamin C and also a Vitamin D. Back in the day when Covid first came on the scene, research was showing that folks low on Vitamin D (which is most people, unfortunately) were having a harder time kicking the virus than those who had normal or slightly elevated Vitamin D levels. When I heard through the grapevine that this flu, that's so prevalent now, is spreading like wildfire and even mutating into a stronger virus, I started taking my Vitamin D again. In fact, Dr. John Campbell on YouTube said a mistake was found a few years ago & the RDA of Vitamin D is actually in error & it should be much higher! If you wish, watch his video here. Our son Austin (38yo) got this flu virus right after our family celebrated our Christmas on December 20th. That following Monday morning he woke up sick & was in bed for 4 days, finally taking a shower & eating a decent meal on the 5th day. He's still got a slight cough but is feeling much much better. Have any of you been stricken?
I received my copy of The Old Farmers Almanac for 2026 in the mail a couple days ago, from Amazon. How I love that little publication! It's been published every year since 1792, believe it or not. The first article in this year's publication is about the weather....of course. That subject seemingly is the bedrock of The Old Farmers Almanac. There was a quote towards the end of the article that I'd like to share with all of you:
"Whether weathering foul weather, personal challenges, or a public crisis, time is the only fix we can count on. With time, everything changes...including the weather."
I thought that quote seemed apropos on many levels, both in my personal life and in the world in general.
Thank you once again for everything, my dear friends. I am truly unworthy.
Much love, Andrea xoxo
Yes - crazy weather! We had wild thunderstorms last night, with thunder that shook the house. Temps also in the 50's which is crazy for January in Mich. But, snow is supposed to start up again this evening, probably the same for you.
ReplyDeleteStay warm!
It's been unseasonably warm here for the past 24 hours and now the wind is howling and blowing all the warm weather away! The temp is dropping as I write this. I've been taking my vitamins D and C religiously for years. If I am exposed to anyone sick I double the vitamin C dose for a while. So far I've been able to avoid getting sick (knock on wood!) I like that quote. Stay well my friend! XO
ReplyDeleteI'm in Southern Illinois and yes, the weather has been crazy and unpredictable. I love the Farmer's Almanac and need to pick this year's issue up. My grandparents always had the new one every year, so I've been reading them almost all of my life.
ReplyDeleteYes to the strange weather! I am in Maryland and literally just took a walk. In January. With only a sweater on. Anyway, hope you have a cozy and relaxing weekend!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, thank you so much for this vitamin D info! I take a multi, and Phil takes both multi and D. We are terrified of this super flu and wear masks everywhere.
ReplyDeleteYes crazy weather and yes Vitamin D is a must up here in the Winter!
ReplyDeleteWeather much too warm for winter here too. Crazy! No, thank the Lord we have not been sick and I pray it stays that way!!!

ReplyDeleteHello Andrea, so glad you felt all our love for you. One thing I have learned about our blogging family, which includes you my dear friend, everyone is just so encouraging and caring when we need it. Our high today was 54 but it felt colder. We have had a damp rain all day and I think that must have had added something to the feel of things. We had very windy weather a few nights ago and the pinecones were hitting the deck very loudly all night. I was interested in all the vitamins you take, especially mentioning the Vitamin D. I take it along with calcium, a multi vitamin, and fish oil capsules. I didn’t know that about Covid and Vitamin D, which is good to know. Thank you for the link. As I am very interested in such things, I will check it out. So sorry Austin came down with this nasty flu and hope it won’t be long before he is 100 percent healthy, and glad he is feeling much better than he was. Touch wood, I have not had it but I know we can’t take it for granted as even here I keep hearing about it. I also keep hearing about the Old Farmer’s Almanac. My in-laws used to get the publication and it sounds very interesting. Amazing it’s been going for that length of time. That’s a great quote you shared and I’ll be borrowing that to share with family and friends if I may? Thank you in advance. And in signing off as I know this is a long comment (I am a fast typer as I started out typing at 17 and then for many, many years, had a job typing up notes, and even now type as fast as I think, which is why people get a lot of waffling from me at times - smiling) but had to say, you are truly, truly worthy!!! With much love to you too, Denise xoxo - promise my comments won't go on as long next time, lol!
Yes, that quote is very true. I didn't get the virus that everyone else is catching but right after Christmas my granddaughter and daughter in law got sick
ReplyDeleteThank you for stopping over. I liked your comment and appreciate your prayers. We have had high winds for 2 days now. I take a lot of vitamins and I never got COVID. I'm glad you enjoy that magazine. That is a great quote. Thank you for sharing it. ((HUGS))
ReplyDeleteGood to know that you are recovering. Here in the UK, we are 'enjoying' some wintry weather, which we haven't seen much of in the last few years. We have just had Storm Goretti which had winds up to 100 mph in Cornwall. The weather seems to be more extreme these days.
ReplyDeleteThat's a very good quote to remember!
Best wishes
Ellie
Dear Andrea, I'm sorry to learn that you are feeling so low. I think that it is hardly surprising given the news that we get each day of our very depressing world. I'm in my eighties, born during the 2nd World War, with a childhood with few material goods but surrounded by optimism for better things to come, a belief in education and health for all and friendship between countries. America was thought of as a solid friend. How has it come to this! It makes me feel incredibly sad. I think we must do what we can to protect our own well being,, love our family and friends, keep our home a refuge, concentrate on the small things that are beautiful in our lives. Yes, and take a good doze of vitamin D! I spray some under my tongue every morning, we Brits never have enough of it during the winter months. I hope you will be feeling much better soon, Rxx
ReplyDeleteDear Andrea, you are in my thoughts, dear friend! Sending you much love and warm hugs. I hope you will be feeling better soon.
ReplyDeleteWe also had a very big storm here last week many damage everywhere, power cuts… it was even worth on the coast.
ReplyDeleteI will be leaving next week to see my grandsons in Dubai ( which is normally already hot end of January but it is the coldest winter they ever had in the desert!
I am glad I don’t like too much heat!)
I hope you’ll feel better soon. A hug from France.
