Good morning dear friends....

The sky is very overcast this morning.  We had a whole bunch of rain in the last 18 hours & it looks like we're going to be getting more. Our homestead here is on high ground but there are flood warnings out for those who aren't elevated.

Youngest daughter got a text at 5:30am this morning saying that school is cancelled for today due to power outages.  She had to go in at 7am to put away the supplies that arrive every morning but she was home by 7:30am or so.  Her school had power & when she texted with her manager-friend from her former school, they had power also.  Something just didn't seem right!

Come to find out, the "power outage" text from the school system, at 5:30am, was simply a generic text to get the word out that school was cancelled for today.  The real reason is that at *least* 20 catalytic converters were stolen during the night, from the school buses, so they couldn't pick up the children for school today!!

All the area school system's buses are kept in a huge (locked!) building on the transportation grounds, which is behind fencing. behind youngest's former school.  When her manager-friend texted her, she said there was a beehive of activity & police around the transportation building....bay doors all open & lights all on.  She said she figured then that school wasn't closed because of a power outage.

Now it's all over the news!  Bailey's boyfriend has to drive by the transportation grounds to get home & he just texted her to say that the area is swarming with news crews & broadcast vehicles.

When I did a little sleuthing online I saw that apparently catalytic converter theft is quite "the thing" in school systems.  I saw at least ten articles about this type of theft happening all across the country and I'm sure I could have found more articles had I kept looking.  I guess it was just our area's turn.

It seems everyday I hear of something, if not here then elsewhere, that makes me shake my head and wonder what is happening to our country & world.  My sweet little elderly aunt (89yo) always says the same thing, as to the answer for all this:

"There's no God anywhere, honey.  People have rejected Him.  He is no longer in hearts or homes... and no one goes to church anymore or says their prayers."

I believe she's 100% right!!

Have a good day, one & all.

Much love, Andrea xoxo

You're so right, Auntie!!

  1. Wow. That's a lot of catalytic converters missing. I imagine that's going to cost quite a bit to replace them all
The picture of your aunt reminds me of a lady who lives near me

    1. Yes, I do treasure this picture, Shug. It was taken last fall, when we picked up Aunt Shirley & took her to a local club for a fish fry. I love all those "clubs" that are still around....most of them are closed now. xoxo

    1. Yes, that's true, HappyK. I remember a time, when I was a little girl, that hardly a family was home mid-morning on Sundays because everybody was at church. Sadly, that's not true anymore. At least around here it's not. xoxo

  6. That's a lovely photo of you with your auntie. It is a beautiful photo and she sounds a wise and lovely lady. I found it amazing learning about those catalytic converters. I didn't know anything about them being a popular thing to steal. What a shock for your youngest daughter, for everyone I'm sure.
